Mopar concepts and specialty cars for SEMA: Dodge Charger Juiced
story by Patrick Rall • photos by Marc Rozman
When the 2012 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show takes place in Las Vegas starting on October 30, enthusiasts will see 24 "Moparized" vehicles.
When I got to the event today, I was greeted by six vehicles and at first glance, these vehicles aren't quite as wild as I've come to expect from Moparaized production vehicles headed to SEMA - until they opened the hoods.
The presentation was launched by Pietro Gorlier, with the cars launched by top Mopar designer Mark Trostle.

The star of the show today was the Dodge Charger Juiced, which offered a fairly mild exterior dress up package that included an interesting hood, roof and trunk lid that wore what SRT's Mark Trostle called an anodized version of the metallic orange body color. The matte finish hood has an open facing air intake along the front end that looks a great deal like the air opening we have seen on the Vipers over the year - which is fitting considering that this mean looking Charger R/T is powered by the 8.4L Viper V10 engine.
The modifications on the outside including the chin spoiler and the newly designed lightweight SRT wheels look fantastic but they are subtle enough that you would never expect this orange Charger to pack that kind of power. What looks like a mildly modified and debadged Charger R/T is actually a car that will easily swallow up anything that it comes across on the street.

Concept cars are often made so a car's feel can be evaluated, problems can be foreseen, and reactions of the public can be judged. Some concepts test specific ideas, colors, controls, or materials - either subtle or out of proportion, to hide what's being tested. Some are created to help designers think "out of the box." The Challenger, Prowler, PT Cruiser, and Viper were all tested as production-based concepts dressed up to hide the production intent.
