Urban Ram — 2012 concept car

urban ram concept

The last vehicle in attendance was the “Urban Ram”, which at first glance looks like a standard 2013 Ram 1500 regular cab with a factory body kit, a factory option power bulge hood, a hard tonneau cover, unique paint and a driver’s stripe. However, when you pop the hood the standard 5.7L Hemi has been replaced with the 470 horsepower, 6.4L monster Hemi found in the current SRT8 vehicles.

The 22” black painted R/T wheels leave plenty of space to see the gigantic SRT braking package. A massive Mopar decal along both sides of the bed might be a little much for the average truck buyer but this truck – exactly how it sits – would be a production dream come true to the millions of Mopar diehards around the world. Please, Chrysler – build a production version of this truck and call it the Ram 1500 SRT8.

The Mopar take:

The 2013 Urban Ram packs plenty of muscle with a 392 HEMI engine, but that wasn’t aggressive enough. Add Mopar headers, a Mopar cold-air intake and Mopar performance dual exhaust with chrome tips into the mix, a Mopar performance handling kit, and SRT rotors and brake calipers, for the full effect.

The exterior look is done in Modern Blue accented with a Mopar blue stripe, with a sport performance hood and body kit, black 22-inch R/T wheels, with Ram wheel center caps. Other mods are a fiberglass tonneau cover, bed rug, bed ambient light kit, and Mopar design badge.

venomConcept cars are often made so a car’s feel can be evaluated, problems can be foreseen, and reactions of the public can be judged. Some concepts test specific ideas, colors, controls, or materials — either subtle or out of proportion, to hide what’s being tested. Some are created to help designers think “out of the box.” The Challenger, Prowler, PT Cruiser, and Viper were all tested as production-based concepts dressed up to hide the production intent.
