2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 A&W Prototype: Cruisin’ the Dub
A&W of Canada has been running a “Cruisin’ the Dub” series for years now — expanding to 250 locations for 2010; nearly all participating “Dubs” hosted weekly summer cruise nights. For 2011, A&W posted this:
Watch for details about Cruisin' at our 3rd Annual Cruisin' for a Cause Charity Day on August 25th, 2011, at all 720 A&Ws in Canada. Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Classics and Antiques all will be cruisin' into the A&Ws for this worthy cause. ... In 2010 we raised over $700,000 on that special day.
The first prize in the A&W Cruisin' the Dub 2010 Summer Contest was a 2010 Dodge Challenger SXT Rallye, awarded in Moncton, NB to Kim Beaman.
On Sunday, June 1st, 2008, Allpar reader Kevin White was out for a cruise in his 1969 Dodge Dart GTS when he was passed by a new body style Challenger; being an avid Mopar enthusiast and franchised Dodge dealer, he knew that they weren't released yet.
Kevin wrote:
I caught up to them and had them pull over. The car was being driven by a representative for A & W, Dodge had given them the car to do their "Cruisin the Dub" tour across Canada. This gentleman and his associate were heading into Ontario to start the tour. I had a look at the car and they went on their way.
Monday morning, I was on the phone to my Chrysler reps and anyone else who I thought could help me obtain this car. I was told that they were unsure of what would happen to the car as it was a pre-production model.
On April 28th, 2009, after countless phone calls and emails, the car was delivered to my dealership. It arrived with all the A & W decals intact and two pre-production stickers.
There were only 500 2008 SRT8 Challenger 500s; Kevin’s is a pre-production model, one of a kind. It was the focal point of over 2,500 A&W Cruisin’ the Dub events.
