Here's the real Chrysler news of the week - the home-grown, turbocharged Neon SRT will finally be produced, though not until next year. Complete with a restyled interior and nose, the SRT resembles a Subaru WRX from the front. Interior styling is more impressive. The real news, though, is not styling, and most Mopar fans would probably be just as happy if Dodge had left the original Neon appearance pretty much intact while changing the drivetrain.

Good news a-coming!
Genciu wrote: Ram truck sales are up 9% from last year to 30,253... guess some people were worrying about the new design for naught. Also up were: Sebring Sedan +45%; Sebring Coupe +6%; Sebring Convertible +94%; Concorde +6%; PT Cruiser +16%; Voyager +8%; Town & Country +51%; Wrangler +7%; Grand Cherokee +3%; Dodge Neon +20%; Stratus Sedan +40%; Stratus Coupe +7%; Dakota +10%; Caravan +30%.
Overall: Dodge Division +6%; Chrysler Brand +19% and Jeep +4%. Liberty sold 12,763 (not bad; but not great).
Note that last year, Chrysler still had Plymouth, so without seeing the numbers we can't tell whether this is a net gain or a net loss. A large percentage gain for Chrysler brand is not as substantial as a large percentage gain for Dodge, for example, because they have less sales to start with. Still, December looks like a good month so far - we're waiting for the market share reports to make a final judgement.
Keep an eye out for a recently stolen 1964 Chrysler 300-K Silver Edition two door hardtop, silver with black 1/2 vinyl top and black interior. [May have been repainted by now]. Badly faded paint with some primer spots, vinyl top partly gone. Washington "Collector Vehicle" licence plate #CV00736 (plate number appears to only say "00736" at first glance). VIN #8443206477. Has 300-K 413 with correct "V41 HP" code. If spotted do not approach, report location to police. San Francisco PD case number is #020 009 117.
The 2004 Crossfire, which DCX says "combines American design with German engineering," will debut at NAIAS. The two-seater, to be built by Karmann in Germany, has a Mercedes suspension and drivetrain, including the Mercedes 3.2 liter engine with a six-speed manual for five-speed automatic transmission (the Chrysler 2.7 and 3.5 apparently lost out). The 3.2 makes 215 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque, which will be applied to the rear wheels. Four-wheel antilock brakes are standard, as are electronic stability control and all-speed traction control. We will post photos and specs shortly, but this is essentially a reskinned Mercedes.
It's not the best warranty in the business, but it's pretty darned good. Chrysler has extended the 7/100 powertrain warranty to all Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles purchased by March 31, 2002.

The new Opel Vivaro medium van and the Opel Combo delivery van took first and second places when the votes were counted for the 2002 "International Van of the Year" title. The Vivaro - and its sister-model, the new Renault Trafic - scored a runaway victory, with 115 of the total of 232 points. The expert jury, made up of commercial-vehicle journalists from 20 European countries, was invited to assess ten light commercial vehicle models with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 metric tons. Each of these vehicles was closely examined and tested for several days in typical operating conditions at up to 75 percent of the maximum payload. [From GM]
