The show is open to all Mopar and AMC vehicles and is presented by the Florida Mopar Connection Car Club. Tree Tops Park is accessible from the west via I-75 and the east via I-95, to I-595 to the Nob Hill Road exit. Once on Nob Hill Road, travel 2.7 miles south and the park will be on your left.
Fast Freddie's Dodge Micro Van, food and drinks, goody bags to the first 200 registrants and vendors, door prizes, model car contest, music, and the cars are featured. Wall plaques with Award Level (Gold, Silver, or Bronze) will be presented to all participants.
Dodge NASCAR drivers Bill Elliott, Sterling Marlin and Rusty Wallace, as well as racing legend Richard Petty, star in a new TV ad for Dodge. The spot features Elliott, Marlin and Wallace continuing their competition off the track as they jostle to be the first to leave the garage following a race. Each jumps into a new SRT; Wallace into the SRT-4, Marlin into the Ram SRT-10, and Elliott into the Viper SRT-10. Speeding out of the track, they pass Petty, standing next to his 1971 Dodge Charger race car, who says, "Sweet." The voiceover concludes, "Introducing the new SRT series. Race inspired. Street legal." The new BBDO Detroit-created ad will debut during the Daytona 500 on February 16, with a full-minute version on the Internet.

According to rumors from within DCX, Chrysler's design process modernization group has been given responsibility for the design process throughout the corporation, replacing German and Japanese groups. In addition, we understand that DCX execs have been placing a strong emphasis on cooperation between all three major corporate groups - Mercedes, Chrysler, and Mitsubishi - and that the groups have indeed been working together more cooperatively than at any other time. Meanwhile, Chrysler's patent applications seem to indicate work on an automatically controlled manual transmission - which would be a true "manumatic" with strong power and fuel savings. More details to follow.

The Associated Press reports Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is considering dumping most of the state's 428 SUVs. This is expected both to save money and score political points among environmentalists.
Eric Fehrnstrom, a top Romney advisor, said the move has not been finalized, and no decision has been made on what types of cars will replace the SUVs.
Massachusetts owns 3,385 passenger vehicles, trucks and vans.
Romney himself is chauffeured by state police in a Ford Excursion, but there has been no mention of his giving up the massive SUV. Mr. Fehrnstrom said Governor Romney wants to get rid of nonessential SUVs, not ban them entirely.
While there are no hard figures yet on the potential savings, budget officials estimate SUVs cost 50 percent more to purchase and 50 percent more to operate. At current gas prices, official say trading in all state-owned SUVs would save Massachusetts taxpayers nearly $130,000 in gasoline costs alone.
Governor Romney is not alone. His fellow New England governors are also considering changes.
Connecticut officials are budget problems are driving a review of the need for the 195 state-owned SUVs.
Newly elected Vermont Gov. James Douglas plans to travel by SUV only when he has to, such as during inclement weather, when his state police drivers prefer a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
A spokesman says Douglas is uncomfortable riding in the SUV. His personal vehicle is a Dodge Neon without air conditioning, power windows or locks, or a tape player.
In a sharp break with past DCX decisions, the corporation has chosen Dundee, Michigan - North of the Mason-Dixon line - as the location for a new joint venture engine factory which will produce four-cylinder engines for use in Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler vehicles. Within five years, around 400 people will work at the plant, though new job creation may be offset if the Trenton facility is closed. The American plant will start producing engines in 2005, though separate facilities in Korea and Japan will start in 2004.
DCX officials have indicated that, without substantial government handouts, they will not live up to their half-hearted promise to build a new plant (or rebuild the existing B-van plant) in Windsor, Ontario. Canadian officials, who are not predisposed to corporate welfare - apparently having a desire to spend taxpayer dollars on those in need, rather than on wealthy foreign corporations - are being pressured to match the generous donations of American states and cities. To our knowledge, DCX has not built any new plants in the Northern United States or Canada, and has not built any new union-organized plants. The new factory - wherever it may be located - will continue Chrysler's strategy of strong flexibility and supplier involvement, and, like the Campo Largo Dodge plant in Brazil, will actually have sections operated by key suppliers (e.g. the paint shop would be operated by PPG).
Mopar pilot Greg Stanfield set a new Pomona Raceway low elapsed-time record with a career-best pass of 6.772 seconds at 203.77 mph, while the rest of the 15-car NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Pro Stock contenders filled out the quickest field in series history. Mopar teammates Darrell Alderman and Allen Johnson qualified their Neons in the top five.
Alderman, a three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Pro Stock champion, secured his third-place qualifying effort with a run of 6.779 seconds at 203.43 mph. Alderman ran an identical elapsed time with 2002 NHRA Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin, Jr., but his Hemi-powered rocket provided the speed to claim the higher qualifying slot -- Coughlin produced a top speed of 203.09 mph to Alderman's career best 203.43 mph run.
Johnson’s return to the Mopar camp has been a successful effort when he clocked a time of 6.780 seconds at 204.08 mph and rounded out the field’s top-five cars.
