Ode of the auto mechanic
This was sent in by Andrew, who wrote: “I recently found a poem in the back corner of a drawer in my dad's toolbox (he was a mechanic at a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep dealership for about 35 years and is now retired), and thought you might like to publish it. It's called Ode to the Auto Mechanic.” The author is unknown and we’ve searched online, and believe it to be anonymous and public domain. If not, please contact us.
I’m a journeyman technician I should diagnose the problem When I charge you for my labor But technology in the auto I must be more electrician Then refrigeration systems Electronics now have made the scene In hydraulics I have more to learn Torque converters and transmissions |
Fuel systems of a hundred kinds The principles of combustion I’m in welding, I’m in plumbing There’s models, makes and systems Now compare me to the doctor The human body hasn’t changed There’s years of school in his field There’s new equipment and technology There’s lots of books he has to read |
There’s no comebacks and no wait His mistakes are often buried We spend millions of tax dollars Everybody has one body But you’ll go right on complaining And you’ll take your high school dropouts And when your car cannot be serviced |
