6. Chrysler 2.2L Turbo. The only four-banger to make the list, it's here mainly because it was just about the only thing Chrysler did right in the 1980s. It's also the second Carroll Shelby engine on the list - sense a trend?

· I Found The Problem With The Power Seats
Bob ONeill - 07-3-09 20:06 - 1 comments
It's not the motor, it's the switch. It's the one in the console. So, if you're going to Carlisle and have an extra switch please let me know. I'm going to attempt repair this one but a 'newer' one would be a better bet.

· Alternator Problems?
exile - 07-3-09 19:44 - 0 comments
Other day voltage guage dropped below eleven and all indications led me to believe problem with alternator. I've had alternators go bad before and it looked just like what was happening. So, put in new alternator, everything seemed to be working fine. However, 3 days later, it semed the problem was back, However, not as severe. Car will still run, but charge is low at times. Battery should be good. New alternator should be good. Belts good.

Some ideas of mine may be...I think I had this problem before and I think the mechanic told me it was the Power Module (the thing that is between the battery and the fender). Could the Power Module have and effect on the voltage regulation. Also it's very hot and this may be affecting the Power Module. Second, the problem seems to be related to the Heater/AC fan. However it could be that the fan puts a heavy load on the system,

· 1950 Plymouth Hub Color
Steve340 - 07-3-09 14:55 - 0 comments
I am repainting my front drums/hubs and I noticed that the left side hub is orange but the right side hub is black. Is this a factory paint color to show that the left side hub is orange designating it has left hand thread for the lug nuts and the right side is black designating right hand threads?
I want to paint it exactly like the factory did. This car has 73,000 miles on it so I think it may have the original hubs/drums.
Both drums are black though.

· Had My Own Carlisle Today!
soloflite - 07-3-09 14:19 - 5 comments
Well, since I'm unable to make Carlisle this year, I thought what better, have my own.. Only one missing is my 86' Turbo Z which is next door in my neighbors 3 car garage in storage. But it's here none-the-less.

· To Flexplate Or Not To Flexplate?
Trailmaster - 07-3-09 01:09 - 2 comments
The search for a 360 flexplate for my Jeep in the local boneyard has been fruitless, which means I'm either going to break down and spend money for one from somewhere else (don't have it to spend), live without it (but honey, the J20 makes such a nice lawn ornament), or find an alternative. Said alternative has manifested itself, in the form of a Wagoneer showing up in the boneyard recently with a 4 speed. This would be a bit more work to convert, but my labor is free to me, right? It appears to be (I'm still learning about all things Jeep) a T18 with a Dana20 tcase. My biggest downside against this is that I'll lose my beloved QuadraTrac, (Bob S is probably smiling, saying "Chain, you don't need no stinkin chain!) and the fact that with the current QT in the truck, I don't have hubs that I can disengage. Upside is that a standard will help fuel economy some, especially when towing.
1. Apparently the QuadraTrac was never put behind a standard trans by Jeep, is there a technical reason anyone knows about for this?
2. If the answer to #1 is no, is there some combination of parts that will allow me to install the QT behind a standard trans?
3. If not, are the hubs off the Wagoneer going to fit the J20 axle? It appears that most of the axle is the same, the big differences are the rotor and caliper, becasue of the 8 lug wheel on the J20, and of course the Wagoneer has the lockout hub and mine just has a steel cap.

· Do You Have To Remove The Struts To Change The Mounts?

Do you have to remove the Struts to change the Mounts?

97 GV 3.0 Have that hard plastic groan when turning the wheels up by the left strut tower. But it tracks well, and no wobble when driving at all speeds.

· On The Road Again....
poorboy_616 - 07-2-09 20:49 - 2 comments
Well, the 87 Scarokee has new tabs and is driving again.

I cleaned ALL of the electrical connections, tested all of the sensors and found the O2s to be done for. All other sensors work just fine.

She will got to the shop early next week (would've been this week, but they were booked up) to have the exhaust manifold repaired/replaced and that should cure it.

I drive her around a little today and she runs MUCH better than she has in a while. More power, better pickup. The mileage is still single digits due to the bad O2s, but a new one will be put in with the manifold work. She does have vacuum leaks, but I found out they are minor and will be cured by the gaskets. Thank goodness!

Needless to say, I am smiling right now. (IMG:http://www.allpar.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Six months this thing hasn't been drivable except around the block and in town (which is about a mile from home).....

Current project List:

Replace the right front axle shaft with the one piece shaft from a later model to eliminate the troublesome Central Axle Disconnect system.
Replace all fluids and inspect T-case for any issues.
Flush brake system and install new front brake hoses (had them for a while, but haven't installed them)
Inspect brakes on all four corners. Replace as necessary.
Replace battery cable as they are questionable.
Replace belt.
Retrofit A/C system to R134A (have the license and knowldge, but no tools.)
Order and install 2" lift kit
Replace front and rear gears with 4:10:1 ratio sets.
Replace 225/75-15 tires with 30x9.50 A/T's
Order and install skid plate for under belly protection
Replace motor and trans mounts.

· Speedometer Cable Electronic Module?
laser2112 - 07-2-09 20:17 - 1 comments
Where the speedometer cable attaches to the transmission, there is a black cylindrical electronic device (cruise?) that has damaged wiring. Is this a crucial part? The two wires are touching each other. Should I replace/rebuild/ or ignore?

· Mysterious Water Leak
laser2112 - 07-2-09 20:11 - 2 comments
I'm currently rebuilding my entire front end with a friend on the '85 laser. One of the projects that I'm doing is searching for a water leak. I found the one that I was searching for, and then stumbled upon another.

I thought it was the turbo return line back into the block underneath the PS pump, but I noticed it's not leaking, but being leaked on. The PS pump bracket AND the exhaust manifold has antifreeze on it.

Could this be a bad head gasket? The motor was rebuilt 12k ago, but in 2000. The car ran for a while before the head gasket blew, but after that I replaced the head and all the gaskets and what not. The car was not driven after the rebuild due to the front end being destroyed in tow.

Where could i be leaking water? I hear that the PS pump bracket bolts and the exhaust bolt areas are actually a part of the water jackets... so re-tighten?
