i will try and get some pics later when my camera is charged but its a Black 86 daytona turbo 5 speed with black leather interior. The car needs a lot of work but thats why its my new project car :). the body is pretty solid a little bit of surface rust on the hood and some small rust on the bottom rocker panels. The car has 106000 miles i was told unless theres really 206k lol. the motor and trans is out of a 86 turbo z which needs to be put into the car as it was dropped out of another car as one. It needs new cv axles, probably new brake which im doing anyways. its got some 16 inch rims off a grand am gt which im gonna be painting gloss black. the paint is shot so im gonna repaint it black of course. My plans for the motor is to probably to get an aftermarket intercooler, and convert it to TII status with some 40+ injectors, 3 bar map sensor and a 3inch exhaust. im probably gonna get a 87 stage 4 or 5 calibration from fwd performance. one set up for 16 or 18 lbs of boost. i know the TI non common blocks can take up to about 250 hp so my goal is to get it around there until i can build a nice common block for it and do some more work. i would like to put ac in the car since its black with black leather and i think in the summer it be too hot without it.
As for the brake im gonna put the 89+ shelby brakes on it and i wanna rip the drums off and convert it to disc brakes. The carpet will prob need to be replaced too but im hoping to restore the leather seats.

questions comments and ideas would be appreciated thanks

Slightly different here; I prefer the 89 (ES only) then the 86 (Turbo Z) then the 91 (91 over the 90 because of the interior not being year-specific, and room for CD or traveler etc.). Regardless of year, it's got to have a factory body kit.

Congrats. The '86 is the best of all the years if you don't consider the very rare R/T.

We need pictures though.

Just out of curiosity, why would 86 be the best year?

Guessing here, it was the last of the 1st gen models, and had quite a few improvements of 84 and 85s?

Of course this is personal opinion but I base it on several factors.

Not including the extremely rare R/T's such as the one of eight blue R/T with the 224hp engine there are the 'rest' of the Daytonas. Since it is next to impossible to get one of those 8 (of which I think there are only 6 or 7 left) I am not counting those.

Of the rest of the Daytonas there are several firsts.

The rare '85 TurboZ with T-tops is probably at the top of the list but the '86 was the first 'official' t-top model. But that aside, '86 was the first year for the C/S package. So put together the '86 with T-tops, C/S package and leather interior with power seats etc and add to that the styling of the four headlights rather than the pop ups and it's a very desirable combination.

The '87 was the first year to be badged 'Shelby' so these are next on my list because of the pop up head lights. For me the pop up head lights are not as cool as the four headlight styling.

Next are the IROC's but not the V6 IROC's. Again my opinion.

But if you consider current value as based on the NADA blue book, the '86 is more valuable than the rest from the information that I've checked out. But I haven't bothered with too many other years since I only have '86s.

Ok, I was just curious.

My personal preference is for the '89-91 body style and the '90+ interior, but that's just me.

It sounds like his car will be pretty neat.

We need pics! ;)

I like the Gen 2 least. I hate the concealed headlamps, they make it look like a Celica or MR2. I like the Gen 1 best, and the Gen 3 next best. The Gen 1 is the best looking interior, hands down. But I do like lots of features on the Gen 3 - the shift pattern and smooth shifting, the hand brake, the console (radio especially) being much easier to reach, the pod switches being far more convenient.

And for serviceability you can't beat the Gen 3 with its relay box, easier-to-remove instrument panel and center console.
