You can find flowmaster series 40 on Ebay pretty reasonable. Watch for offset inlet and center outlet. You'll love it.

Since many NAPA Auto Parts Stores will offer an dis-count to people who are on "projects", ask them the first part of this message and if they have an "NAPA house name/number" for the muffler that you nay want.

You may get what you want and also save the cash for more items.

dontlike flowmaster sound - just my opinion - though theyve improved over the years i guess - dynomax are better - I ran Hooker Aero chambers on a few cars and was very happy with them - and theyre cheaper - maybe 10-15 bucks more than your cherry bomb - mellow tone at idle, and very free flowing. Id use them again.
All that said - youd probably be ok running a straight glasspack as long as your not lightin it up from a stoplight in front of a cop - where do you live? I've run evrything from open headers, no side view mirrors, no front license plate, lowered rides, lifted rides, you name it and the only things that get me pulled over are speeding and drunk driving (I dont advocate either, by the way)

cherry bombs have a great sound, so do smithys, but you got a muscle car - aero chambers are the way to go

I've got Dynomax Turbo II mufflers on the Cordoba and I like 'em. They sound nice idling, they're fairly quiet under light throttle, and they sing well at WOT. And, as others said, they're not expensive.

I had the entire exhaust on the Cordoba done for $500. I brought the car in with just headers installed and they put on dual cats, an X-pipe, two mufflers, and cut the tips like an OEM exhaust pipe looks, and they used 2.5" pipe.

Borla makes several different mufflers for different tastes. You might try them and see if one fits you.

I have a borla cat-back system in my 87 CHerokee (XJ) with the 4.0l. It's loud, but not overly so . It does turn heads (which I like to see) driving thru town, but it's also not loud enough to garner much attention from the boys in blue.

Here is a short video of the noise. At about 5 or 6 feet the sound level drops dramatically unless you are accelerating briskly, then it stays fairly loud. It's nicely toned, but loud up close. It doesn't drone at freeway speeds either.

I've got some mufflers called "Power Sticks" made by Classic Chambered in Michigan. They are a true flow-through (shaped like a glasspack) chambered muffler. They are the 26" long versions in a Pypes 2.5" dual exhaust with X-pipe, hooked up to a 318 with Lunati Voodoo 256/262 cam. They are pretty loud around town but not mind-numbing (more SHOW-OFFY, Heck yeah!) and they really quiet down once you get cruising around 55 mph. Freeway driving is no louder than it was with the stock single exhaust and cheapo Sears muffler. I'm sure on your more extreme engine they would sound even better...

I have dynomax on my duster they sound sweet, Borla make the best mufflers for performance but they also have the biggest price tag >.<.

I have the Dynomax on my Charger and it has been described as sounding like a F***ing Monster.
