Emissions Problem MAP and O2 Sensors Rate Topic: -----

If you were a registered user, you would not be seeing this!

I have a 1993 Dodge Spirit 6 cylinder 3.0. When I do the "key dance" I get codes 12, 51, and 55...when I read through the descriptions on the codes it says the MAP sensor can throw the 51 and the O2 sensor might be ok. My question is, how can I test the MAP sensor? I have a multimeter but I'm not sure how to go about testing. I'm getting 13 MPG and I'm trying everything I can to boost it up to at least 18. Any help is much appreciated.

I submitted that part of the diagnostic, and it really is actually not that common. In my case, symptoms were very rough idle, stalling upon coasting, flooding, black smoke, terrible mileage. Bad O2 sensors usually don't cause stalling every time you lift your foot off the gas, and usually don't cause very rough operation under all conditions. Most likely it is the O2 sensor.

That engine should give you high twenties for highway mileage, and at least 20 around town.
