93 Dakota Seat Upgrade Other Chrysler stuff fit?

I have a 93 Dakota that was given to me. I love it, even though it has it's quirks. I've had to replace the water pump, timing chain, thermostat, fuel pump, and brakes. Great truck. 235,xxx miles. 3.9, AT.

Sorry for the rambling.

The seats aren't that comfy. I know GM stuff gets it easy, because the seats swap between models. Are there any Chrysler seats that are a close or direct bolt in? I'm thinking that Grand Cherokee Limited seats would be the cat's meow. Just curious if anyone has heard of a swap like this, or works in a dealership and has noticed that the bolt pattern is the same.

This is a general statement, not 100% sure it applies to a Dakota because I've never swapped seats in one. Chrysler seats are often different between vehicles because the floor pan is different. However, if you take the brackets off your old seat, the mounting points for the brackets on the new seat are often in the exact same place. So, new seats plus old brackets and you can probably make other seats fit. My 93 Dakota is a little behind yours, it's only got a little less than 205k miles, same engine as yours.

That's what I was hoping. They're great trucks, aren't they. When I pulled it on the trailer and took it home, I didn't know I'd like it so much. The wire that goes to the fuel pump had a crack in the insulation and corroded through. Not bad at all.

I got my 93 when the previous owner's son "ruined" the engine by running it the rest of the way home from college after it blew a heater hose. Yes, it popped a head gasket but the engine wasn't hurt one bit. Just a new head gasket and it's still going.

Even though I have a newer and nicer 99 Dakota, I've kept the 93 because I can use it as a truck and keep the 99 Dakota nicer. Plus the 93 isn't worth squat with the miles and the paint starting to peel. :rolleyes:

I'm surprised about the comments on the seats. My 92 has the most comfortable seats I've ever experienced on long trips.

How nice the seat is does vary a lot by trim level in these trucks.

I found a set of buckets out of a '94 Dakota to put in my '91(still need to drill holes for hte inside brackets on both seats....grr.)

I have heard of people using seats out of the LeBarons, and other Chrysler cars....do believe they had to modify the brackets to fit. Even the seats from the '97-04 Dakotas fit, with a little bracket work.

I don't imagine you should have too much trouble finding seats that would work....

My only beef :P about the seats on my '94 Dak. is where the seat back adj. is. When you slide out of the truck, the vinyl curls down over the button and tears it up. Almost all the older Daks seem to have this problem. Seat foam seems to have collapsed also. But it does have 193K on it. Bucket seats out of a late model Neon are a good swap. A buddy of mine put them in his 68 Roadrunner weekend warrior, he only had minor fab. to make them work. :D

speaking of Neon seats, I think i saw pics of a swap somebody did with SRT-4 seats into a Gen II Dak...

The buckets in my '91 have that same wear on them, 67hemicharger....it is an annoyance isn't it! lol
