If you were a registered user, you would not be seeing this!

Did anyone who is on indefinite layoff just receive a letter today (4-30-09) to transfer to Belvidere Assembly? As part of our new agreement we have to accept or reject this letter and turn it into our HR Dept. by May 6,2009. If we do not respond to this letter you will be terminated and your recall rights will cease.

What does one do? Call there bluff and say you accept knowing that they will be down for however long, and hope they do not call you and keep receiving your benefits or do you take the buyout and move on.

Where are the Union reps? They should be answering your questions.

My son called today and said he got one. Three of 4 of them layed off got one. I told them to go to the Union hall and ask. Kind of funny that letter came out the same day the announcement was made. They don't know what to do either.

I just ready the language in the latest agreement and it states that if you do not accept to go you will lose your pay and benefits but retain your recall rights.

I seen that. At this point they don't have benefits anyway. But if they are getting Sub pay, I bet they loose it. This kind of thing will displace a lot of people.

Check out our website from our local. Was told by our Union President not to worry and we not have to reply because this was part of our old contract. Hope that helps. I know it was on my mind and a lot of other guys yesterday on what to do.

No I thought the same thing. But according to what he is saying this was sent out under the old contract and it is considered invalid. I will look more into it to make sure for my own security.

I understand that the union considers it invalid, I get that. But does the entity paying you your paycheck consider it invalid?

Good question. The only others to ask will be HR personnel on monday. Unless anyone else has heard anything.

Reading the most recent press releases it sounds like all employees of the proposed plants to be closed will be offered new positions at other plants.

Just talked to Union President, and he said that they were in talks with HR all afternoon and what HR said is that turn it in by the due date and if you decide to not accept it you will NOT lose any of your benefits. This offer was offered under the old contract and not the new one we just ratified. Hope this helps.

I can't help you with your question, but I can assure you that it's no bluff. We are owned by Fiat now and in Chapter 11 the status of the labor agreements are up to the Bankruptcy Judge.
Contact your rep.
Good Luck to you.

Not sure if its different for you, but Bill Parker put this up on our Local's website yesterday.

Voluntary Offer of Work at Belvidere

Members are receiving a letter seeking volunteers for jobs available at the Belvidere Assembly Plant, outside of Chicago, Illinois. This is a voluntary request. It is not an offer of work that knocks anyone out of SUB and benefits. Members who turn this down will not be impacted in any way.

Thank you ShapGirl. That is what we were told also.
