i think the world relies to much on stupid automatics
it is way more fun
and you have more control if you shift yourself

More control over what?

Some of us cannot drive stick. Some of us have tried to learn, unsuccessfully. Some of us have found that stick is a pain in the behind during icy conditions and/or stop & go traffic.

So, for some of us, an automatic works better.

I have never tried in 22. My problem, I wear a size 20 shoe! When i was looking at the SRT-4 - i put my foot on the brake - and the CLUTCH at the same time :-X

A lot of cars are like that with me. Im almost stuck driving an automatic. Unless its a truck.

Woo Hoo, Now I won't have to worry about your pompous butt using up bandwidth with useless posts that say nothing!

Oh and here is what is posted on the front page: “As of yesterday (Feb. 9), Challenger was given a “go” by management. Model year unknown. 6.1 liter Hemi and 6-speed manual transmission only.” — “Der Spien,” a former engineer with DCX.

Notice it says a former engineer with DCX, I highly doubt that DCX is running to "Der Spien" with the production plans for future products.

So as it stands now it is still a rumor until DCX makes an official announcement.

I do think it is hopeful due to the Dodge poll that is now closed, further I don't see Chrysler limiting the Challenger to a manual only as that would severely limit the appeal of the car to a great deal of potential customers. If anything I think Chrysler was only gauging the demand for a manual transmission, the 6.1 425 HP Hemi with the automatic transmission is already certified and would be a drop in drive train for the Challenger, where as the 6.1 425 HP Hemi with a manual 6 speed transmission would have to be certified before it could be placed into the Challenger, so in FACT the cheapest solution would be to drop the automatic into the Challenger from the start and if there is enough demand to justify the cost of certification, then a 6 speed manual could be included or added. If demand was strong enough from the poll it may be an option from the get go.

Further more, if this was given a go and was that far along, I am sure Chrysler would know the year it would be released and would not have left that as an unknown. I doubt "Der Spien" is a real reliable source for the production of the Challenger.

Another thing that brings great doubt to "Der Spien" is I have read that Chrysler's current crop of future cars have a much greater influence and control on the American side then the Germen side this time around, so again it throws doubt on the source that he would be so privy to information on the Challenger a decidedly American flavor car.

We will soon see won't we!

There are no pompous butt people here. http://www.challengertalk.com/
Very refreshing!

Never had a problem taking off on ice in the 25 years I've been driving. Maybe I'm just that good.

This statement illustrates the evil that government regulation and corporate greed that has brought on our youth. For the last 20 years our boys haven’t had access to muscle cars like us grey hairs did in our youth. And now they think it easier to do burnouts with automatics.

What’s next, Armageddon? :o

Manuals are great, for those that like them and enjoy them. But don't be "hatin'" on the automatic folks... ;)

Got nothing against auto's. Or Manuals the manual has to have a heavy cluctch and a stiff gas pedal though my sisters honda is annoying I Can drop my shoe on the clutch and it would push it in. :P

I'm not hatin' just havin' a laugh... I had a buddy back in the spring of 74', swapped a 5:13 rear into his 68 Camaro for a month of so. It would burn-em' while running it through all 4 gears!!!

Smok-em if you got em'.

FWIW, I'm seriously thinking about buying my brother's Fiero 2M6 with a 4-speed.

One, it gets it out of his hair and yard. Two, It'll make a nice "manual learning" car. ;)

One of the biggest things to learn with driving a manual is it takes practice no one is good there first few times. Once you learn how to transition between clutch and gas for the start and how to ride the clutch between shifts for smoothness its not to bad it becomes automatic.

That's what everyone tells me.

The biggest issue I guess is that since 99% of the cars that were accessible to me were automatics - the learning opportunities weren't there.

Save for my sister's late-80's Mustang 5.0 LX. And that is NOT to right car to learn stick in. I tried. :o

Put down the cell phone, the starbucks, egg mcmuffin & the newspaper and grab a gear! Man, you see it all on I-75 every morning. If having to change gears manually is such an effort take the bus. :D :D

That's a bunch of sh - crap!

I drove stickshifts for over 300,000 miles before I decided it isn't fun anymore. Now, all my vehicles have automatics because I just HATE rowing a stick, and particularly, working that dang clutch, in stop-and-go traffic. If you want a stick, get a stick. If you prefer an auto, get one. I just hope we get a choice with the Challenger.

First off, I don't use my cell phone while driving, I don't drink coffee, I don't read the newspaper while driving, and I detest Egg McMuffins.

Second, if the bus was available on my home-to-work commute, I would gladly take it.

Freedom of choice. Don't deny me mine, since I wouldn't deny you yours.

I won't cry if the Challenger is manual only - I'd actually expect it to be that way to start with at least. I'm not planning on buying one.
