If you were a registered user, you would not be seeing this!

Greetings everyone,
I ran across a 93 Dodge Shadow ES for 2k today. Thing is, it has a factory turbo engine, but yet the vin engine code is K. I thought the ES had a NA 2.5 I4 and the 3.0 V6.

Thanks,
Ray

Maybe an early swap done by the previous owner?

Hello Ray,

The VIN code for a 3.0 is "3", the 2.5 was a"K" and the 2.2 Turbo was an "A" engine code. If you'd like, I can decode your VIN for you and reply here. It'd just take a second.

Let me know.

The E. engine code is for 1984-88 2.2 SOHC MFI-turbocharged engines.
The A. enigne code is for 1987-93 2.2 SOHC MFI-turbocharged engines.
And my Chiltons manual shows that the 2.2 turbo wasn't offered in 93. except in the Daytona.
the last year it was offered in the Shadow was 92. and that was the 2.5 Turbo.
A "K" in your vin for the engine code means that your Shadow origianlly came with a 2.5 TBI

So my 84 Lebaron VIN is correct as an "E".

Hey Holeshot,

The "K" engine is indeed listed as a 2.5 NA, it could be possible that you have a carryover turbo from the 1992 model year....Bonus for you right!!!!

I have seen turbo engines from thr 1993 model year but usually 2.2 tubo NOT 2.5 turbo. How many bolts does your valve cover have?? Is your valve cover stamped steel or cast aluminum. Let's get to the bottom of this!!
