Pinging & Oil burn Rate Topic: -----

If you were a registered user, you would not be seeing this!

Hi all,

My 96 Breeze with 2.0L & auto trans has a few problems. It has 92500 miles. Pretty well taken car of it seems. It is pinging an mild acceleration. Not up hills or under real load but just whn you gently sqeeze the throttle. I have tried different brands of gas. I also added about 4 gallons of "SUPER" to my last tank to no avail. I have no codes & my EGR seems to be working correctly.

I am also using some oil. About a quart in 2-3 weeks. Seems kind of low miles to be burning oil already. There are no leaks that I can see. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you checked for the infamous head gasket leak? That might be the source of your oil consumption.

Well, there is no sign of oil in the coolant & visa versa. The coolant level has not changed. How would I check?

Usually it's leaking oil on the "back side" of the engine, on the driver's side - pooling on top of the transaxle housing.

Some of the 2.0L SOHC engines had pressed-in spark plug tubes, and the adhesive that keeps the oil in the head from getting into the tubes degrades and then oil gets in and interferes. It's easy to check, just pull your plug wires and inspect them, then pull your plugs and inspect them too. They should be oily on the top.

I will double check the top of the tranny but I don't think I saw any oil when I was looking for a leak. I will also check my spark plug tubes. If that is the problem it is just a valve cover replacement & those seals come the gasket I bielive. Thank for the info. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Just curious what is the cause of the the oil leak which causes it to pool on the tranny? I have the same car as this guy with alot more miles though. I just noticed it is leaking oil onto the tranny and one of the spark plug seals is leaking as well. I'm going to try to fix it this weekend but i know nothing about the 2.0 engine.
