I am a new guy here and just wanted to say howdy and introduce myself. My name is Chris. I have a 1986 Plymouth Reliant 4 door. It has the 2.2 automatic. The body and interior are perfect .The clear coat is peeling everywhere on the hood, roof & trunk. It is blu with blue interior. I am planning a paint job soon but plan to go white.
I am older than dirt. Got 2 kids and a wonderful wife. I bought my car cheap I think. Others said I over paid. I gave $235 for it and drove it home about 50 miles. It runs great and shifts good. The complete cooling system was just replaced. New alternator. I need to replace the front axles is the only problem it has other than a few leaks here and there.

Welcome aboard!

$235 doesn't sound too bad at all. I paid $250 Canadian for my latest '88 New Yorker - of course, the little head gasket issue that made it so cheap to buy lightened the wallet a fair amount more than that ;)

welcome to allpar! :) $235 doesn't sound too bad.

before you replace the axles, check all three motor/transmission mounts and make sure the engine is centered.

Welcome! Those were great cars. I think you'll be happy with it. They are rugged and they ride better than the Toyotas that someone here touts so much. :P

I'm sorry, but I got quite the chuckle out of that statement.

Welcome to Allpar. I think you'll find that this is one of the friendliest, most professionally-run automotive forums on the Internet.

lol paying $235 is being over charged? I think its worth more as scrap. not that you should cube it.

and really these people telling you youve paid too much im sure make payments each month greater then for what you bought you car outright for.

$235 for a car that got you home 50 miles without doing anything to it isn't bad at all. Apparently it's not a rustbucket either, so you did quite well, actually.

If you want to see what it'll look like white before you go ahead and do it, have a look at Usagi's car here.

Yep, rust can make or break it. The drivers side is rusting away omn mine, and I'm afraid my 89 will come apart in two pieces some day. Shame, the engine and trans are in very good shape.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. You folks really make someone feel welcome. I have already found a plethora of information here. Magtec I am going to replace all the mounts when I do the axles. This is my second K car. My first was a sharp car but had major carb probs. So I got rid of it. This one is in such great shape, the int is perfect as is the body. It runs great. The motor and transmission are in excellent shape. Car has no rust. A friend offered to paint for $400. I had planned on going white with it but have changed my mind and decided to keep it blue. I kinda like the color. The a/c stuff has all been removed. What I like is the fact it has no rust whatsoever. I will post the pictures as soon as I can upload them to my photobucket account.
Again gang thanks for making me feel welcome.
BTW I can see I almost stole 86Reliants name but what's with the "both of them" ?
Here are a couple pictures of my baby.

Aww on that carb thing, Which one that was? 2.6L or 2.2L? Mine is carb and I had to replace it with Weber instead for same reason on Tulip's 2.2.

Oh, welcome here!

Cheers, Wizard

Welcome aboard Kris. I think the people who told you that you paid too much are just jealous that you got a Mopar that cheap and they missed out.
