So this year -- I was thinking, maybe we should swap the "trophy run" for a "video run." In short, we have a designated interviewer (NOT me) talk briefly with each person who signs up, and we post the results on our allparcom YouTube channel. We could also take some of these cars and make them "cars of the month" through the rest of the year, especially if the owners can move them out onto emptier areas of the field ... maybe on Sunday.
I was also wondering if I could get a volunteer to set up banners and such on Thursday night or early Friday morning... thinking of coming in on Friday afternoon instead of Thursday, and staying a bit later on Sunday to do the photography/filming.
Dave, check out all their deals. They have a 3-night rate that worked out to $78 a night. That might not work for you, though. But consider that a few years ago I paid $118 a night plus tax there.
If I select the 11th-14th (arrive Thurs night, leave Sun morning), it shows $85 for Thurs night, $95 for Friday night, and Sat night is N/A. This is why I usually book by February. This year I booked on April 13th, very late for me.
The Wingate by Windham just up the road that we stayed at 2 years ago is also sold out for Saturday night. Looks like renewed interest in Chrysler and its recovery may produce a sellout show this year.
Dave, if you get stuck and you're coming alone, I can put you up in my room, there's a sofabed - whether Sat night only or both nights.
We hope everyone has a good time this year and that it is not too hot again. We will have to skip 2013 though. Linda is just getting back to work after a 7 month layoff. We wanted to at least make it to the CEMA show in Michigan but that is the same day as our Daughter's graduation. We'll just have to read about the events here at Allpar.
Sorry to hear that! It'll be the first Carlisle you've missed in what, seven years?
That said, anyone who hasn't made reservations yet, Best Western in Middletown has at least one room open; they're inexpensive and Bob L is staying there.
I will be trying the Holiday Inn Express for the second year in a row. Last year it was pretty bad due to the room they gave us, right by the loudspeaker and spotlight.
Hi Y'all! I'm reading about all your plans and the temperatures there. Driving from Arizona so I'll be OK with the temps and hope having lived in Jersey, I'll get use to the humidity. We are expecting 124 to 128 F today. You got to try that some time!
I'll be driving my 89 Chrysler TC and will be with the TC America group and hope I can drive over to the Allpar area some time to join up with you guys.
Maybe they will be close together. Do you know Dave Z?
I have reservation at La Quinta in Harrisburg. Didn't see them mentioned. Hope that joint isn't TABOO. I'm looking forward to meeting you in the Allpar group.
Hope to see you there. Harrisburg is fine. La Quinta sounds good.
Important -> We don't have a cook for Saturday, nor do we have enough grill capacity. I have one mini-grill I can bring, a second one should be enough. (Actually just one is probably enough if we settle on hot dogs and/or sausages, without burgers.) We definitely need someone to either bring a cooler of food on Saturday morning, OR run out at 10:45 am or so to the supermarket. Please volunteer via PM, email or reply here. Thanks.
For the 2nd time in 8 years, I have not received my registration material. The other time, I had to present my paid receipt at the front shack and have them hand-write my window placard and get my sticker there. Has anyone else not gotten their packet yet?
I got most of the scratches out of my car in time for the show but not all of them. I guess I'm just nervous because it's the first show I've been to and I'm worried I'll be the only Challenger on the showfield not in pristine condition.
That's part of the beauty of the Carlisle show...you have cars in all states of condition. To me, a car with a little sign of use tells me that it's driven on a regular basis and not just a trailer queen...which I appreciate.
I hit a piece of tailpipe that someone kicked up in front of me today on the way to the show, it left a noticeable rub mark on my front fascia. I had just painted it yesterday. Such is life.
