    Replaced battery.
Replaced aftermarket taillights with OEM units.
    Replaced radiator.
Replaced Body Computer thru Chrysler in Pompano.
    “ battery lead wires, both.
    Replaced alternator.
    Replaced battery.

    Replaced 4 tires.
Replace LCA ball joints and bushings 170K
Repair pass side shaft boot, inner
Replace o2 sensor at exhaust manifold.
Obtained 3 defective O2 sensor units from Advanced Auto.
Replace front rt motor mount (attempted home repair).
Replaced frt rt motor mount with new.
    Installed window wind deflectors
Rec’d P-0135 Code again-Sensor1 Bank 1 front sensor.-keep burning up the heater element.

thank god I can make my own repairs if not this car would have been my ultimate car buying failure.

the local dealers disagnotics are a expensive joke.

    Mr2tim;

You knew what you were in for buying a high mile, low-priced car! Those are what I would call "mid life crisis" auto repairs.

We've updated our reliability stats for the PT Cruiser to include owner experiences through December 31, 2012.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:

    2008: 44, moderate

2006: 97, high, first year of refresh

2005: 40, low, very small sample size

    2004: 98, high

    2003: 78, moderate

2002: 19, low, very small sample size and seems too low to be accurate

2001: 58, low, very small sample size

In all cases except the 2003 and 2006 sample sizes are small and even very small and the stats are not precise.

Thank you, once again, tothis forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

We have a 07 Limited Turbo with 58k miles. We bought it in Oct of 12 with 53k on it from the original owner....She had a new battery and several issues with the seat trim on the drivers side breaking (so did we). All was going well until the last 3 months. We had to replace the high pressure switch on the A/C and 3 weeks ago the CE light came on and the engine stumbled but was fine after a re start. The light stayed on so I took it too my trusted mech and it was the cam sensor.....they recommended doing the crank sensor at the same time.. they also found the upper rad hose was leaking, which of course requires the intake plenum to be removed....so with everything it was a $408 deal. Then the under hood tee for the washers broke and of course the dealer sold me the wrong part so i just glued it. The seat trim was almost 70$.

I truly love the PT (it is just beautiful in Tangerine pear) but it has become irritating with its small problems. Are the sensors miles related or age related? Or something else? All of my friends that have had MOPARS in the past 15 or so years have loved how they looked and drove and the features but hated how they just nickel and dimed them to death. Now I see what they mean.

I bought my son a PT Cruiser when he graduated from the University in 2001 in Tallahassee. In about 2006 I visited him in San Diego and showed him how to polish the head lights, changed the air filter and PCV, and buffed out some scratches. All he had been doing was 3000 mile oil changes. In 2012 he called and asked if it was true he needed to change the anti-freeze. I asked what maintenance he had done in the 11 years and 110,000 miles. He said oil changes and whatever I did 6 years earlier.

So I sent him to find a shop or dealer to change the timing belt, anti-freeze, spark plugs, etc. He still loves it.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the PT Cruiser now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2008 PT Cruiser: 98, high, small sample size
2006 PT Cruiser: 66, moderate, small sample size
2005 PT Cruiser: 118, high, very small sample size
2004 PT Cruiser: 72, low, very small sample size
2002 PT Cruiser: 44, low, very small sample size
2001 PT Cruiser: 35, low, very small sample size

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes. Next updates in August and November.

Our reliability stats for the PT Cruiser now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. (Others are over a year behind, and so report how these cars were doing when a year younger.)

    Repair trips per 100 cars:

2008 PT Cruiser: 76, moderate, small sample size
2006 PT Cruiser: 58, low, small sample size
2005 PT Cruiser: 110, high, very small sample size
2004 PT Cruiser: 86, moderate, very small sample size
2002 PT Cruiser: 66, low, very small sample size
2001 PT Cruiser: 47, low, very small sample size

If a model year isn't listed, or its sample size is small, then we especially need more owners involved.
