I feel bad, since I'm still learning about these cars, I only have questions, and never answers. My driver's side windshield wiper stopped working because the drive splines are stripped. What exactly do I need to fix this? The guy at the auto parts store said I needed a new wiper transmission. Does that seem reasonable, and of more concern, are the parts available?
Yep if it's a stripped post you need to replace the wiper transmission or at least that one post that's part of it. By now this will probably be a junkyard only part.
These are the splines between the wiper arm and the cowl pivot stub?
In the 1982 Mopar parts catalog in figure 23A-4400, they show the wiper system for the P, D, C and V (all K-cars) models. Although these parts are discontinued, use the Mopar part numbers as references in your search. The page is about 5/8ths of the way through the catalog here: http://oskin.ru/pub/chrysler-dodge/manuals/Chrysler_Service_Parts_Catalog/CD2/82-91Car/82p.pdf
The left wiper arm pivot is Mopar # 4240512.
The left and right wiper arms are the same Mopar # 3799694.
Arizonaparts shows them: http://arizonaparts.com/database/partlist.txt
