I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that included actual repair rates. So in late 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now reports absolute repair rates that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so it's possible to track cars closely as they age.

I'm grateful that Allpar was an early supporter. Thanks to this forum, we've had better coverage of Chrysler products, with thousands of Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners signed up to participate. 179 are signed up so far for the Compass and Patriot. A good start, but more remained needed for us to fully cover all model years.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the Compass and Patriot, free of charge.

We have updated results for the Patriot and Compass to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 63, about average, but small sample size

2008: 26, better than average

2007: 28, better than average, but small sample size

We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the 2008, the percentage with no repairs is about 75, and the percentage of lemons is less than one.

Our Compass has been in the shop for oil changes, period. We have over 37,000 miles on our 2008 and so far it's been fine. One plastic interior piece has broken but I can fix it. Other than that, no issues at all.

I'll rotate the tires and probably get another 20,000 or so more out of them.

Our '09 Compass is fine, there was a squeak that happened after one of our tire rotations, and I think the dealer caused it, it was repaired with a 'part'. Suspicious.

I think that the 07 Patriot has been pretty bullit proof, the only problems we had where

The Radio before 1 year, the brake switch(had this done twice, would not let Jeep come out of park), the BAS/Trac light(needed flashed), both lower control arms(the ball joint where almost falling out of the sockets)
Other than that just gas and oil changes. The brakes have been great just replaced the front brakes and rotors at 25,000 miles(my mini van could only muster 12-14,000 miles on front brakes)

Son has a 2007 Compass with 50,000 miles, wife has a 2009 Patriot 4WD with 12,000 miles. The Compass had a few isues with trim around the windows, but otherwise has been great. Patriot has had no problems.

The wife came in this morning and announce her Compass wouldn't come out of park.  I remember hearing the click of the release when the brake pedal is depressed.  It's been replaced already, and they insisted on doing the clock spring in the steering column at the same time.  Is the clock spring necessary?  I can do a brake switch.
