The Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee will be priced well below the usual SRT8 numbers, bringing back memories of the original Super Bee -- a copy of the successful Plymouth Road Runner, which provided high performance without any frills. The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 starts at $46,660, while the Challenger SRT8 392 starts at $45,025. By comparison, the Charger SRT8 Super Bee will start at $41,495 plus destination -- a substantial reduction of more than 10% of the car's price, reflecting enthusiasts' demands for "all the performance without all the frills." The Dodge Challenger SRT8 Yellow Jacket will only be discounted in terms of features -- its price will be $45,490, around $470 more than the base Challenger SRT8. (All prices are subject to change. Thanks, lilreddakota, for the tip.)

Wait, what's the difference between the SRT8 392 and the Yellow Jacket? I though the Yellow Jacket was gonna be a stripped down version of the SRT8.

The Yellow Jacket is not a stripped down car.. it is as loaded as a normal SRT8 but with different wheels and pretty stickers.

OK Now that the prices have been released and a determination has been made that the Yellow Jacket is not a decontented SRT8 Challenger, the question is, will there be a stripped down version of the Challenger in the near future?

So much for a Road Runner type vehicle. Pretty much another rich man's toy or used, no other viable option besides building your own, and then you have smog requirements to worry about. Has Mopar come up with a smog legal CAFE standard engine package that can be installed in anything, the way GM Performance has done for the hotrod community? A crate engine with everything down to catalytic converters that is totally street legal?

"The Dodge Challenger SRT8 Yellow Jacket will only be discounted in terms of features — its price will be $45,490, around $470 more than the base Challenger SRT8..."

There is no "feature discounting" on the Yellow Jacket. The price for the Yellow Jacket package is $1,495 above the base Challenger SRT8.

$45,490 is for the 6-speed Yellow Jacket, add $995 for the auto trans.

TWO different cars. The SUPER BEE SRT8 is a lessor content CHARGER SRT8, at $41,495, the YELLOW JACKET is a CHALLENGER and is not stripped down. ;)

It seems like People are asking for the 35k SRT8's. dont you think that would cause overlap with the R/T's Dodge sales?

A base Charger R/T is $29995 so they are at $30k.

Sounds like plenty would be happy if there was a Challenger SE with an optional HEMI.

Then I guess this was a moot point comment as well.

Here’s a rundown of what’s deleted from a standard SRT8 in exchange for the approximate $8000 rebate:
  • Active exhaust
  • Adaptive dampers (the Super Bee uses regular Bilstein dampers)
  • Forged, 20-inch aluminum wheels (the Super Bee’s 20s are cast)
  • Leather upholstery (the Super Bee gets its own embroidered cloth seats)
  • Navigation (it’s not even optional in the Bee)
  • Heated and cooled cup holders
  • Twelve-way memory driver’s seat (a six-way non-memory seat is subbed in)
  • Heated seats and steering wheel, front-seat ventilation
In addition, a few items become optional instead of being included off the bat: HID headlights, automatic dual-zone climate control, remote start, satellite radio, and, oddly enough, paddle shifters. And several regular SRT8 options can’t be ordered at all, including a sunroof, the Driver Confidence Group (rain-sensing wipers, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, auto high-beams), and the Adaptive Cruise Group (adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning).

I want my Challenger SRT just like this!
give me the 5,000 savings & I will add my own aftermarket exhaust ( kind of partial to the GT Haus titanium exhaust)

We have two dissimilar trains of thought in this thread, so could you please clarify; is this the Challenger Yellow Jacket, or the Charger Super Bee?

MoparMan,

The thread is discussing the Charger Super Bee.

My point is that the Challenger Yellow Jacket would be much more desirable as the decontented Charger Super Bee.

Offer  the Challenger community the  $5,000 savings,  call it Yellow Jacket or better still, Challenger Super Bee!

The Thread Title is "Super Bee, Yellow Jacket pricing", Folks are morphing the two together, I'm just trying to keep it accurate. Such as MoparNorm vs.MoparMan, get my point?

I believe Red was talking about the Charger, your reply was about Challenger, I wrote the question, you answered to MoparMan...see how confusing it can be.

;)

You gotta pay to play.  You can't have your cake and eat it too.  At least Chrysler acknowledged the need for a lower price SRT.  Development of those unique parts still costs money and they can't take a loss for the development.

Roadrunner is dead, just like base model vehicles in general.  Even if it came out, people would find things too complain about.

Yes GM has the e-rod, but it has it's pros and cons too.

Mike
