Reid Bigland, CEO of Dodge, announced today that the 2013 Dodge Dart will start at $16,000. He also said he expected EPA gas mileage to come in at 40 mpg (whether combined or highway mileage he did not say, but it is likely highway). Photos, specifications, and details on the Dart are at http://www.dart-mouth.com/ Posted Image

Hmmm, if you can't get the taillight sections to line up perfectly on your reveal car...don't show it in white....

The R/T's hood is slightly misaligned as well.

I just noticed that on the video...come on Sergio! Half the world was watching and we just gave ammunition to many of them.
Just as in the botched 500 introduction, you only get ONE chance to make a first impression.
Luckily many consumers won't see these reveals, but still, the people writing the reviews do and these little missed details are unacceptable.

Pretty sure Bigland did say they expected a combined 40MPG, as the unadjusted combined was actually over 41.

Norm....that is not a misalignment, but a wide angle view of the "step" that flows down the cut line. An optical illusion brought on by a short focal length camera lens and a radius on the plastic.

Combined 40MPG, EPA? IMO, not a chance.

Because...why? Because you've never seen it before on a gas engined vehicle that wasn't a specific "high MPG" variant?

It's called "changing the game." ;)

Bob,
It's hard to believe that there is only a minor difference between unadjusted and EPA (adjusted) ratings. 41 CAFE to 40 EPA.

Stratuscaster,
Giulietta(1.4T DDCT) gets 45MPG combined in EU cycle, and although Dart may be more aerodynamic, it's still very close to Dart's number. And euro numbers are nowhere close to EPA ratings.

Maybe they used DDCT gear ratios that are in diesel Giulietta or gamed EPA like Hyundai does. But still highly unlikely for EPA comb 40MPG.

I certainly hope so, because it doesn't look good. The Red car lined up perfectly.

Doesn't answer the question. I propose a $25.00 donation by the loser to whatever charity is determined by Dave Zatz. Are you in or out?

There is a structural support at the top of the rear window, that could facilitate a hinge, but nothing in any photo shows the trunk open.
I'd suspect they would show it off now, if it was a liftback...?

Still don't. I've been looking at that roof support and the Giulietta lift-back until I'm cross-eyed, but there is no hard information either way. I've heard "tips" that say yes and that say no, so...it's either a lift, a future lift or no lift, isn't that helpful... ;)
