Chrysler reported U.S. sales of 101,149, a 44% increase over sales in January 2011 (70,118 units), blowing past analyst predictions of a 32 percent improvement. It was the 22nd consecutive month of gains and eighth consecutive month of sales increases of at least 20%. All four brands posted sales gains, led by the Chrysler brand’s hardy 81% increase. Chrysler Group has beaten the industry average sales increase for each of the last 11 months. The January rise was driven in large part by strong sales of its sedans. Sales of the Chrysler 200 were up eight-fold in January, nearly a year after appearing in the “Imported from Detroit” Super Bowl commercial. Chrysler 300 sales were up 273% in January, the sedan’s third-consecutive month with a year-over-year sales gain in the triple digits. Overall, nearly every model still in production showed sales rises, the one exception being the Town & Country...

Very impressive numbers with the exception of the Fiat 500.  Almost sold as many discontinued Nitros as Fiats.

The biggest surprise is Liberty. With almost no advertising support and no model changes, it was less than 200 units behind the surging 200.
Can't help but wonder what a Compass like, facelift might have accomplished, in terms of sales.

Nice to see the Charger up over 5000 units!!

Those 200 sales are almost comically better!

$4,000 cash rebate on Liberty.

Liberty may have been helped by the absence of the Nitro! oops, jsb is right, its rebate is double the next highest rebate for Dodge.

That was my suspicion.
I'd assume that TNAP i shaving a hard time dealing with the changeover to KL and the loss of Nitro.
Either you put cash on the hood, or send people home.
Rebates are preferable to closing the plant, but at near 7,000 units a month, they have to be close to running in the black, even with $4,000 rebates. It will be interesting to see at what volume KL has, compared to this month next year.

In the Chicago Auto Show thread, Strat cited an interview with Marchionne where he said the Dart is the only Chrysler Group vehicle launch this year other than the refreshed RAM.

I think that means no KL this year.

Hence my comment, "next year".... Note, 2013 models will be out in 2012. There is a tendency to confuse calendar and model years.

If they are continuing the trend from Q4 (only 50-100 non retail sales), that's not bad. January retail sales only 100 units less than July and August, when Fiat sold more than 3,000 (both retail and non retail). The best was December with 2,292.

Maybe Abarth and Sport Turbo model will make some changes. 2013 Fiat 500 EV is coming in Q4 but it'll be a niche within a niche.

I was at the Toledo Auto Show this past weekend. People were crawling all over the Chrysler vehicles (CDJ). More than any other vehicle display.....they actually ran out of brochures.
Very good sign....and very good to see all those people.
We're baaaaack !!

Comparing Sales of the Liberty a Year From Now  with Sales This Month Will Be a Real, Real, Real Good Trick.

A Week & 1/2 Ago Nitro's Were Discounted $3500 Right off the Top - No Rebate Stuff.

I Bought One an R/T With 4.0L, W5A580 & 4WD.

At 250 Miles it Get 38.6% Better Mileage the My Old 00 Dakota Quad Cab 4X4 Did.

OK, I'll bite. ;)
There won't be any KL sales next January, or KL will be called something other than Liberty?

Excellent start to the new year.  Chrysler is No. 4 overall, beating the socks off of Honda, which at one time was beating the socks off of Chrysler.  Question:  How close will Chrysler get, to getting back to the No. 3 spot?  They are knipping at the heals of Toyota.

Give them a little time.  I predict by years end we will have the #3 spot back.  At the LATEST, in the 2014 MY.

How many more cars can we reasonably produce without new plants? Dart will be a big part of it but Jeep? Brampton? Mexico?

Dart will be a big part IMHO.  Other plants will have to be de-shuttered perhaps.  Surely these steps are already being taken.  "They may be, but don't call me 'Shirley'".

Chrysler doesn't have any plants to "deshutter".

Considering what was going on 12 months ago, not hard to see the improvement. Still, comparing to the competition, there are some good numbers.
