Chrysler's January numbers were good; they blew past even the most optimistic forecast. But when looking at the rankings, it's easy to get lost in the numbers and wonder why more Chrysler products aren't in the top ten or top 20. Here's some perspective on the numbers: • Chrysler brand's 81.4 percent increase was the largest increase for any brand in the industry. • Chrysler's market share jumped to 11.1 percent, a 2.5-point gain; the largest gain for any automaker. • The Chrysler 300 outsold every Buick, every Cadillac and every Lincoln. • Dodge Grand Caravan was back as No. 1 in the minivan market. • The Jeep Grand Cherokee outsold the Ford Explorer. In fact, the Grand Cherokee outsold every competitive SUV. • The Jeep Wrangler is still the best-selling traditional body-on-frame SUV. • The Ram outsold the combined totals of the GMC Sierra, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan...

Its weird looking at those numbers and seeing the Dodge Avenger still outselling the Charger.  I have no idea where those sales are coming from and they most certainly aren't at my dealership or the surrounding ones.  We sell a lot more Chargers than Avengers, probably in the 8 or 10 to 1 range.

The 200 I can understand, we sell quite a few of them and people genuinely like them... but I just don't get  the Avenger.  Similarly most of the rest of those numbers I would expect as well.. it is just the Avenger.

Although.. we do sell more Town & Country's than we do Grand Caravan's, but I can definitely see that not holding true throughout the whole country due to price.

Around here (near Walt Disney World) I'm seeing a ton of Avenger rental cars lately.  Does anybody have the numbers for fleet sales concerning the Avenger?

Wonderful news.  I had to laugh at the Ram outselling the Titan, Tundra, and Sierra combined.  I think it is awesome.

Fleet numbers should be available in 7-10 days or so. You could probably estimate 20% of overall sales as fleet.

The most interesting thing I see is the number of what should be higher unit/profit units in the upper half of the list. That bodes well for earnings. Now to get the smaller cars going out the door but in a profitable (non-discounted) way. CAFE is going to hurt the future if we can't get some real volume in those high MPG units.

RE: Fiat 500 - it outsold those other vehicles and did so without benefit of a full calendar year of sales.

The listing was only for January, but I think I know what you meant -- they don't have a full dealership roster yet and a lot of people have never seen one.

keep in mind January is a big month for fleet sales.
a retail/fleet breakdown can tell us if chrysler is pushing the sales channels to build and tout favorable sales comps. this would be a good strategy, each monthly sales tally with booming sales is repeated over and over in the public news streams, the positive spin is worth its weight in gold. this pushes the bankruptcy out of peoples' minds and replaces it instead with success story. who cares if avenger sales are to enterprise?

Not me, so long as they are making money on them.

The 500, at least around here is pretty popular in rental fleets as well.

Fiat 500 (fleet sales data from Q4_2011_Presentation.pdf)
June 1,803......fleet sales 700
July 3,038.......fleet sales 1,500
Aug 3,106.......fleet sales 1,100
Sep 2,773.......fleet sales 700
Oct 1,965........fleet sales 0-50
Nov 1,618.......fleet sales 0-50
Dec 2,325.......fleet sales 33

In the same document they anounced a Sport Turbo model for 2012. I guess it'll be around 120-130hp.

At the end of December, the Fiat 500 had beaten the full-year sales of every Scion except the tC, the Smart ForTwo, the Mini Countryman and the Mazda2. It also outsold the "newer" Beetle, but the VW had only been on the market for a couple of months, so it doesnt' count.

When you remember the 500 was launched with almost no major fanfare whatsoever, got most of its promotion from "experiential" marketing instead of a more conventional media blitz, had only  a relative handful of dealers for months after the launch and still carried some of the baggage from the last time Fiat was here, I think the little car did pretty darn well.

Getting to This Sales Level Was the Easy Part !

Keeping Up this Rate (or Better) Will be the Hard Part.

Exactly TexasBill.  I'd be interested in finding out what the initial sales of the Scion brand were when first introduced to the US.
