Corporate summary

Chrysler Corporation, LLC is being set up as a division of Chrysler Holdings, which also includes Chrysler Financial, as part of the acquisition of what is left of the former Chrysler Corporation by Cerberus. A major project for the latter half of the year is changing all the signs and painting over the DaimlerChrysler logo. This will be easier for Mercedes, which retained its full identity.

Dodge

Dodge Magnum and Dodge Charger were refreshed on the outside with a restyled hood for SRT8, optional high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, and new wheels; Magnum got a lowered and stretched front grille, chrome elements added to the front, and dual angled headlamps. The interior of both cars was moderately redesigned, with a freshened instrument panel, center console, and door trim; chromed highlights throughout the driver's area; carbon fiber highlights on SRT8; soft touch points throughout the interior, including arm rests
on the doors and top of the center console; new seat mounted airbags in addition to side curtain airbags; new radios including MyGIG; Sirius back-seat TV optional; iPod interface on UConnect models; MDs status display (four vs eight cylinders firing) added to Hemi models; and a new tire pressure monitoring system.

Dodge Viper and Dodge Grand Caravan were redesigned (see their pages for details).

Dodge Caliber SRT-4 was introduced (see its page for details), along with the Dodge Ram 4500/5500 Chassis Cab.

Dodge Dakota got new headlamps with accent rings, a new fascia, hood, grille, and fender, new TRX cosmetic package, and Sport model got a body color grille with chrome billets. The instrument panel was redesigned with additional storage, the center console was updated, the rear seat was made collapsible and removable with understeat storage, new sport seats became available, MyGIG was added as an option, and a foldout electronics organizer was added. Most attractive for some will be the updated, much more powerful 4.7 liter V8 engine.

Jeep

Jeep Liberty was extensively redesigned, and we have details on the 2008 Jeep Liberty on a separate page.

Grand Cherokee and Commander were moderately redesigned for 2008, witih a new two-piece front fascia (the bottom part was removeable); a longer grille and new circular headlamps (HID optional on Limited, standard on Overland); lower fog lamps; and new wheels. The interior got a new instrument panel, clusters, bezels, and door trim panels; a new tilt/telescoping steering wheel with vehicle information controls; integrated second row headrests and heated second row seats; new radios including MyGIG; Sirius back-seat TV; an 8-inch DVD screen; a glove-box iPod interface for the UConnect system; an AC power outlet; a rear backup camera without the navigation system; standard Sirius Satellite Radio on Laredo, Limited, and Overland; hill descent control and hill start assist; trailer sway control; and a much more powerful 4.7 liter V8 engine. The Commander also got a new two-row, five-passenger sport model.

Chrysler

Chrysler Town & Country was redesigned.

Chrysler 300 was given similar interior refinements as the Charger, with a new instrument panel, center console, and door trim panel; soft-touch surfaces on armrests and trim; a new taillamp design and deck lid; an iPod interface with UConnect; MyGIG hard-drive radios; remote start; Sirius back-seat TV; Boston Acoustic eight-speaker 5.1 Matrix Surround Sound amplifier with subwoofer (optional, as were MyGIG, Sirius, and UConnect!); new wheels on some models; and new packages and colors (interior colors added were dark and light gray, and dark beige.) The 300C got LED lighting in the front cupholders and both front and rear map pockets, optional adaptive cruise control, and an indication of whether the engine was running on four or eight cylinders.

PT Cruiser was not changed much, as it enters its next to last year. A new Sunset Boulevard Street Cruiser will be sold, using a unique shade of maroon, chrome bodyside moldings, lock knobs, and exhaust tip, power moonroof, deep-tinted sunscreen, 16 inch aluminum wheels, body color door and cluster bezels, and special badges.
