Chrysler Pentastar V6 and WGE Four: Engine Number Decoding, 2013-?

The engine label is relatively easy to read. The second line contains the part number and engine size. The first line decodes as:

?FactoryComponentDayYearLineSequence
(per day)
1 letter2 lettersletter/number001-3650-90-90001-9999
  • Factory: PH = Trenton South, PN = Trenton North, NT = TigerShark
  • Day, Year, Line, Sequence: see below

For the engine block, which has a laser-etched code:

Day #YearLineSequence
(per day)
-Part TypeCylinder BoresCrank Bores?
001-3650-9A-Z0001-99990001-436(six digits)(four digits)Two characters
  • The cylinder bores are listed from cylinder 1 through 6, with single-digit bore classification codes (1, 2, etc.); crank bores are similar, going from crankshaft 1 to crankshaft 4.
  • The code is likely presented in five separate lines, each having up to six characters, on a smooth/polished surface. A machine-readable "square barcode" may be etched underneath the human-readable code.

For the cranks and heads on V6s and TigerShark four-cylinders, which have laser-etched codes (there may be additional numbers trailing):

Day #YearLineSequence
(per day)
-Part Type
001-3650-9A-Z0001-99990001-436

For blocks, cranks, and heads,

  • Day # is the day of the year (e.g. Jan 1 is 001).
  • Y is year, where 0 = 2010, 4 = 2014, etc.
  • L = the line, where A through D are Trenton South, J through N are Trenton North, and P through T are TigerShark fours. A, K, and P are head line 1; B is head line 2; C, N, and S are the crank line; and D, J, and T are the block line

Part types are:

  • Blocks
    • 032 = 3.0 or 3.2
    • 036 = 3.6 liter
    • 132 = 3.0 JK (Wrangler export)
    • 136 = 3.6 JK (Wrangler)
    • 160 = Ferrari V6
    • 232 = 3.0 or 3.2 CUSW (e.g. Cherokee)
    • 236 = 3.6 CUSW (e.g. 200)
    • 332 = 3.0 / 3.2 (common cut)
    • 336 = 3.6 (common cut)
    • 436 = 3.6 (future design)
  • Heads
    • 001, 002 = 3.6 liter left base, right base (respectively)
    • 003, 004 = 3.2 liter left base, right base (respectively)
    • 005, 006 = 3.0 liter left base, right base (respectively)
    • 011, 013 = 3.6 left base, new and old ECT (respectively)
    • 012, 014 = 3.6 right base, new and old ECT
    • 401, 402 = future 3.6 head designs
  • Crankshaft
    • 030, 032, 036 = 3.0, 3.2, 3.6 (respectively)
    • 436 = future design
