Chrysler unveils new vehicle order tracking system

by Bill Cawthon on

As of today, Chrysler customers can easily track the production of their new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram vehicle. The automakers has introduced a new consumer-focused, self-service Vehicle Order Tracking System (VOTS) that allows tracking by using the VIN, which is e-mailed to the customer as soon as it is generated.

Warning: at this time (November 20, 2014) the VOTS system is down. We do not know when or if it will return.

To take advantage of the new system, the customer provides their first and last names (along with certain other information) and an e-mail address when they order their new vehicle. The customer will then receive just three emails about their new vehicle once they leave the dealer: Order confirmation; Production Scheduled, and the email will include a link to the VOTS site, plus their VIN; and shipment confirmation.

The Vehicle Order Tracking System can be accessed at each of the brand sites using the same URL format:

http://www.Chrysler.com/vots

http://www.Dodge.com/vots

http://www.Jeep.com/vots

http://www.RamTrucks.com/vots

To use the VOTS, customers need to give their email address, their first name and last name (along with typical required information) to the dealer sales person when the order is being filled out. Giving the dealer your email address will enable you to receive the VIN via email once it is generated.

As you can see in the image below, you need the final eight digits of the VIN, plus your first and last name used in the dealer order to check the progress of your new Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and/or Ram.

Once customers receive their VIN, they can check in on their new addition at any time to see which of the eight production stages (example below) their “baby” is in:
Confirmation (also notified via email)

Eight Production Stages:
Production scheduled (also notified via email)
Frame
Paint
Trim
Final Inspection
Shipment (also notified via email)
Delivery

These first features are just the beginning: among planned future updates is the addition of pop-up messages for information related to specific vehicles, such as a delay in production or other changes and new information.

If, for some reason, you do not give the dealer your email address when your order is being completed, simply contact your sales person and ask him/her to add your email to the order. If you don’t like to receive emails, no problem! After receiving your order confirmation and VIN, you can opt out of future dealer emails but still have access to VOTS.

Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
