For the second month in a row, Chrysler is the biggest seller of cars and trucks in Canada, beating Ford and GM. With the 27th consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth, February 2012 sales were 16,536, 9% more than in February 2011.
Ram truck sales continue to surpass monthly records. For February 2012, 4737 Ram truck sales were reported, up 11% from the previous record set in 2011. Jeep® Wrangler sales of 1131 were 37% higher than the previous February record of 823 set in 2007. Strong Wrangler sales helped propel Jeep brand sales to a 24% increase.
Passenger car sales doubled when compared against February 2011, with 2410 units sold in February 2012. Ram pickup alone sold nearly twice as many units.
Chrysler Canada does not report all its sales by model. The Ram pickup is now the #2 selling vehicle in Canada. Dodge Journey, usually touted as the best selling crossover in Canada, was not reported this month, indicating it may have slipped from its perch for the first time in many months.
Chrysler de Mexico is far behind Chrysler Canada in market share. Fred Diaz took over recently, and said, “Our employees and dealers are working together in the continuous improvement process established by our new Corporate Culture emphasizing customer service.”
Chrysler brand posted a sales increase of 35% with sales of 376 units. Jeep Compass was up 70% and Grand Cherokee was up 8% but no figures were reported for the brand as a whole, and it likely fell.
Dodge sales were up 4% with Challenger and Charger increasing by 500%. Ram reported increases in Ram 4000 (25%), Hyundai H100 Wagon (33%), and Hyundai H100 Van (41%). Fiat and Alfa Romeo reported increased sales of 110%.
