Clear spy shot: Jeep Compass mule?

These spy shots were captured by Allpar’s own David Zatz; the car in question is a mule with a Jeep front, which appears to be the size and shape of the forthcoming 2015 Jeep Compass. Whether it is or not is hard to tell, since Chrysler is ever more secretive.

RedRiderBob wrote, “Expect for a vehicle that is built to be a 80% on road 20% off road vehicle but still have Trail Rated offerings.”

There are two sets of insider comments, one saying it would “look very much like the current Patriot in shape and size but mixed just slightly with the soft lines of the old Jeep Renegade and Willys2 concepts” and the other saying it looks like an Alfa Romeo Giulietta with a Grand Cherokee/Compass front clip.

The Compass/Patriot successor and an Alfa Romeo CUV are to be closely related and all are built on CUSW, the same platform as the Dodge Dart, as is Liberty. The “Compatriot” would likely be front wheel drive and all wheel drive, lighter in weight and duty cycle than Liberty, and smaller — C class versus D class.

Allen Johnson re-ups with Marathon

Longtime Pro Stock Dodge driver Allen Johnson, cut off by Mopar at the end of the last season, has renewed his sponsorship deal with Marathon Oil for the 2017 NHRA drag racing season. It’s a natural fit: Johnson owns Greenville Oil and Petroleum, which has 37 Marathon-branded Quick Stop Markets.

The champion in 2012 and runner-up to Jeg Coughlin Jr. in 2013, Johnson is the only Dodge driver to have made it to a final round in the past two years.

Challenger GT (AWD) hits the EPA

We may not know much about the upcoming all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger GT, but we do know this: it will get 18 mpg city, 27 highway. The car is now listed in the database.

Those economy figures indicate that the AWD Challenger GT will have the Pentastar V6, since they’re the same on the V6 Charger. All wheel drive cuts about 1 mpg off city mileage and,

Behind the rumors of “22 minute diesels”

German newspaper Bild am Sonntag claimed back in May that the German transport department, KBA, had discovered FCA was shutting off their diesel emissions controls after 22 minutes. That accusation was reportedly widely in worldwide media, but was never confirmed.

FCA’s chief technical officer, Harald Wester repeatedly denied the  “22 minute” charge in statements to the EU Committee of Inquiry into Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS):

Contrary to allegations,

Warren has been bronzed

The Warren truck plant has been awarded bronze status in World Class Manufacturing (WCM), the 20th North American facility to reach that milestone. Ironically, the plant is to be repurposed as mainstream Ram production moves to Sterling Heights, a short drive down the street.

The 78-year-old plant in the suburbs of Detroit, near the GM technical center, has long been devoted to making trucks. WCM was first used by Fiat in 2006,
