Chrysler de Mexico today reported December 2012 sales of 10,707 units, the best month of 2012. Year-over-year sales increased by 7% over 2011. Total 2012 sales were not reported, but Allpar estimates they would be around 95,000 units based on the full year increase numbers, estimates of 2011 sales, and data from Ward’s.
Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck brands, together, sold 9,439 units, including a large number of rebadged Hyundai cars and trucks. Car sales rose 8% over December 2011, Sport Tourer/Minivan sales rose 1,870 units, and SUVs and trucks sold 2,592 and 1,415 units, respectively, during December 2012. The Dodge sales leader was the Hyundai i10 (1,851 cars), followed by Journey (1,482). Ram had an undefined sales rise. Fiat and Alfa Romeo, together, rose 8%, largely due to Fiat 500 and Strada sales.
Chrysler generally releases fragmentary sales data for Mexico. Full-year numbers from non-Chrysler sources will not be available for at least two months.
