Speed freaks looking for the next evolution of SRT power may not have to wait as long as expected, according to several Allpar sources. The “absolutely sinister, stupid power” of the supercharged Hemi V8 engine will reportedly be shown off in a Dodge Challenger at the Detroit Auto Show.
The Dodge Challenger and Charger are both set for refreshes during calendar-year 2014, along with the related Chrysler 300. Whether SRT shows off their new engine in the new Challenger body or in an old “mule,” is still to be seen. Either way, the engine is reportedly more powerful than those of the GT500 or Z28; and will be coupled to an eight-speed automatic or a (probably Tremec) manual shifter. Allpar was told to expect a price similar to the Camaro Z28 — around $70,000 to $80,000. See HellCat Hemi spy shot and details for more.
