The Dodge Journey was originally based on the Chrysler Sebring/Dodge Avenger sedans. By now, it was to have been replaced, but it has soldiered on, at least partly, one suspects, because of changes in the nature of the Dodge focus.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters, “I think the next generation Journey is a completely different car. That doesn’t mean that we won’t be making a car that will fill that space, but the parallel with the Journey’s wrong.” As for making it in Windsor, alongside the minivans, “Wrong, wrong, wrong platform.”

Allpar has speculated in the past that the current Journey role would be filled by a Chrysler, and that if a new Journey is made, it will be rear wheel drive, part of a new family of vehicles developed for Dodge and Alfa Romeo.
