Automotive News: Chrysler readying three electric cars, new Dakota
According to Jim Press, Chrysler will show dealers prototypes of three electric cars later this month. In each cases, the vehicles are meant to be capable of actual production. Press noted that fuel cell vehicles are still far in the future, and that Chrysler is focusing on hybrids. He noted that Chrysler has access to Daimler’s electric-car technology, used in Mercedes fuel-cell vehicles; Chrysler also has access to its own electric car firm, GEM.
Press also noted that the Dakota would evolve into a lifestyle truck, which Allpar first reported on last year, and said that it would continue in production despite low sales, since engineering costs have already been spent.
The article quoted Press as saying that Chrysler will not generate positive cash flow in 2008, and that the market would pick up in 2010.
