China is now Chrysler’s largest non-NA export market

China is, year-to-date, Chrysler’s highest-volume export nation outside North America, thanks to sales growth of 44%, for a total 13,849 units year-to-date. The region as a whole yielded 28,425 sales from January 1 through August 31; for this period, sales outside North America were flat compared to the same period in 2007 as declines in Europe offset gains in emerging markets.

For August alone, sales in China were up 44%; sales in the Asia-Pacific region fell 2% overall, however. In Latin America, sales grew 12% with growth of 86% in Argentina, 35% in Brazil, 25% in Chile, and 15% in Venezuela, the best August sales in Latin America since Daimler took over. Venezuela remains the most popular country in the region with 2,451 units sold in August, with the most popular vehicles being smaller Jeeps and the PT Cruiser.

European sales are down 6% year to date, and 23% in August alone, at 6,746 units for the month, despite increasing popularity of the Chrysler Sebring and the Dodge brand. Russia, still a small market for Chrysler with 1,084 vehicles sold for the month, is however 68% higher in sales than it was a year ago.

Chrysler sells and services vehicles in roughly 120 countries around the world, with sales outside North America accounting for just 10% of the total.
