GM to extend employee pricing promotion

Chrysler may want to take a page from the General Motors playbook. GM is expected to announce a one-month extension of its employee discount for everyone program which is said to have helped clear out some of the General’s huge backlog of pickups and SUVs. In addition, it’s likely the program had a positive impact on the August sales to be announced later today.

The discount was announced on August 20 and was scheduled to end yesterday. It applied to all in-stock 2008 cars and light trucks and selected 2009 vehicles.

GM sales were reported to be down sharply in the first part of August but analysts say the employee pricing promotion, while not as effective as the first time it was offered, provided a much-needed boost to the second-half results.
