Toyota sales down, Nissan and VW sales up

Toyota reported its August sales were down 9.4 percent but a closer examination of the numbers shows sales were actually down 9.3 percent. The Camry outsold the Ford F-Series again though the Ford pickup still leads in year-to-date sales. Toyota brand sales were down 9.4 percent and Lexus sales declined 9.1 percent.

Nissan reported its August sales were up a stronger than expected 13.6 percent thanks to strong sales of the Frontier compact pickup, XTerra SUV and Rogue crossover. Infiniti sales were also up on strong sales of the FX.

Volkswagen year-to-date sales are now up 1.3 percent, thanks to a 2.9 percent improvement in August. Jetta sales were up more than 28 percent.
