Nardelli may drive to next meeting with Congress
Chrysler CEO Robert Nardelli may need to get an early start for his next appearance on Capitol Hill. Following the uproar over the private jets used by all three CEOs of the Detroit automakers when they came to Washington to ask for federal bridge loans, Chrysler spokeswoman Lori McTavish says other travel arrangements are being investigated, including commercial flights and having Nardelli drive the roughly 550 miles from 1000 Chrysler Drive to the Capitol building. Of course, it’s far more likely Nardelli would travel in a chauffeur-driven car than it is he would actually do the driving himself.
To make an even stronger statement of fiscal responsibility, Nardelli could carpool with General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner, who will also eschew a corporate jet. They could also offer a seat to Alan Mulalley, but Ford has not yet decided whether the former Boeing executive will forego his corporate perk.
