Chrysler selling 6.1 Hemi production line?
“LoganSix” caught this interesting advertisement at Hilco Industrial Sales, which appears to be genuine and has numerous photos of assembly line equipment: “COMPLETE 6.1 LITER ENGINE ASSEMBLY LINE; Including: Conveyor; Main Bearing Cap Bolt; Oil Pump; Front Cover; Oil Pan Bolt; Rocker Shaft; Piston; Pin and Connecting Rod Assembly; Cold Test Station”
This does not indicate a major shift in Chrysler’s lineup, as rumors have predicted a switch from the current 6.1 liter SRT8 engine, with fixed valve and cam timing, to a new 6.4 liter SRT8 engine with substantially better power and, some say, better gas mileage due to the inclusion of cylinder deactivation. The current 5.7 liter Hemi with variable cam timing is capable of 380 horsepower, just 45 hp less than the current 6.1, but with far better gas mileage. The 6.4 has been rumored to have anywhere from 440 to 500 hp with numbers in the middle of the range more likely.
