Toledo Blade: Jeep eV a go?

According to JeepNewsNow.com, the Toledo Blade said that Tom LaSorda indicated that the Jeep eV electric vehicle would be made in Toledo.

At a rally in the Ohio city, Tom LaSorda was asked whether any of the electric vehicles would be made in Toledo. LaSorda turned, looked at the white Jeep eV prototype, and said, ”One is right there.”

Chrysler makes Jeeps in Toledo, but not minivans (one of the other prototypes). The third prototype, a sports car, seems unlikely, being based on a Lotus body. Chrysler committed to making one by 2010.

Before being acquired by Daimler, Chrysler had for years made electric minivans and sold them to fleets. Some are still on the road.

The Jeep eV is a four-door Wrangler that runs on electricity, with a backup gas-burning “range extender” motor. The battery is good for 40 miles, and afterwards the range extender kicks in to generate power, which is then used by the electric motor. Producing it would require some retooling.
