Corker: Southern GM plant is OK
Senator Bob Corker, whose relentless and often incorrect criticisms of GM and Chrysler set the tone for recent hearings, is visiting GM executives at the Detroit Auto Show today to praise GM’s Saturn plant, located in the Southeastern United States. Corker took some time out to dismiss Chrysler as being worthy of discussion, according to the Detroit News: “We wouldn’t be having this discussion if it weren’t for General Motors. Chrysler wouldn’t be here really if it weren’t for that.”
The Detroit News also noted Corker’s Senate remarks on December 11, including “This is a company that has a huge amount of debt and very little value.”
Corker represents Tennessee, the location of GM’s Saturn plant as well as import factories.
