LaSorda: Chrysler will consider licensing production
Chrysler would consider licensing production of an existing model and is looking for buyers for tooling for vehicles being discontinued. That’s the word, according to Tom LaSorda, Chrysler vice chairman.
LaSorda was responding to a Reuters report that said the company was negotiating with Renault-Nissan and Magna International for the sale of key assets including the Jeep brand and Belvidere assembly plant.
As Allpar reported earlier, LaSorda said the company was not talking to anyone about the sale of an individual brand or plant.
However, LaSorda refused to rule out the possibility that Cerberus Capital Management might be shopping the whole company to potential buyers.
“I just can’t speak to that,” LaSorda told reporters on a conference call, saying that such matters are “all dealt with at the Ceberus level.”
In an update of its earlier report, Reuters cited persons close to the discussions as saying Chrysler is looking at a deal to sell the tooling for the PT Cruiser and is talking to a Chinese manufacturer.
