Ford sales down 38.9% in January, VW, Porsche and M-B fall, too
Ford domestic-brand sales plummeted 38.9 percent in January (Volvo has either not yet reported or had the one of worst months in the history of the automobile). Mustang sales were down 55 percent and only the F-Series pickup broke the 10,000-unit mark.
Volkswagen sales were down 11.6 percent as supplies of the Rabbit and GTI dwindle.
Daimler had a split: Mercedes-Benz sales were down 42.9 percent with just three models breaking the 1,000-unit mark while sales of the tiny Smart car were up 177.1 percent over last January, when the car went on sale in the U.S. The Smart outsold every Mercedes vehicle except the C-Class.
Porsche sales dropped 36.1 percent on steep declines in sales of the 911, Cayman and Boxter. Sales of the “budget” Boxter and Cayman were down 64.9 percent in January.
