Marchionne says alliance proposal will change
Sergio Marchionne, Fiat SpA’s CEO, told reporters that the terms of proposed alliance with Chrysler will likely change based on the decisions of President Obama’s auto task force. The President is expected to make the announcement of the task force’s recommendations on Monday.
“There undoubtedly are going to be adjustments made.” Marchionne told reporters after Fiat’s annual shareholder meeting in Turin, Italy. He wouldn’t provide details of possible changes but said one might be the percentage of Chrysler Fiat will take. He also said Fiat’s goal is to become “partners in the reshaping of Chrysler.”
Steven Rattner, head of the task force, has already said the alliance is worthy of consideration given concerns about Chrysler’s ability to survuve as a standalone company.
