Patriot gets top marks in first roof tests of small SUVs

The Jeep Patriot was one of four small SUVs that received a “good” rating in the first test of roof strength in small SUVs. The others were the Volkswagen Tiguan, Honda Element and Subaru Forester.
Eight other small SUVs were tested. The best-selling Honda CR-V and Ford Edge received only marginal ratings and the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage received poor ratings.
The test, conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) requires the roof to withstand four times the vehicle’s weight in order to receive the top rating.
