Cash for cars bill agreement made

Democrats have agreed on a proposed “cash for cars” bill that would provide people trading in cars and trucks getting less than 18 mpg (combined) with a voucher for $3,500 on a car getting at least 22 mpg. Those trading in on a vehicle that got at least 10 mpg more than their existing vehicle would get a $4,500 voucher.

While originally the bill had higher rewards for those buying domestic vehicles, this appears to have been dropped. Similar programs in Europe stimulated the auto trade.

By the time the program started, it is possible Chrysler would be producing vehicles again.

The bill still must be voted on by the full Congress.
