Fiat to end car production at Italian plant
Fiat Group Automobiles has announced it will end automotive production at its Termini Imerese plant near Palermo, Sicily, in 2011. The plant, which employs 1,400 workers, currently produces the Lancia Ypsilon minicar.
Fiat does not plan to close the plant. The company said it would keep an “industrial presence with non-automotive production activities” at the Termini Imerese facility.
In a statement, the company said the reallocation of the factory will not affect Fiat’s five other Italian plants.
