Caliber one of top ten new vehicles sold under “Cash for Clunkers” program

The latest statistics released by the Department of Transportation show the Dodge Caliber is No. 8 among the top new vehicles purchased by consumers under the Car Allowance Rebate System as of August fifth.

Chrysler vehicles also rank high among those vehicles traded in with 4-wheel-drive Jeep Grand Cherokees, 4-wheel-drive Jeep Cherokees and Dodge Caravans making the top ten.

As of August 5, 184,304 claims totaling $775.2 million had been submitted. Of those claims, 10.6 percent were for purchases of Chrysler vehicles. American vehicles accounted for 45.3 percent of new vehicle sales with General Motors getting the lion’s share of 18.7 percent. Toyota took the second-largest share with 17.9 percent.
