Cash for Clunkers payments to start today

Dealers that sent in claims for reimbursement under the “Cash for Clunkers” will be getting their money soon as the Department of Transportation will begin sending out payments today.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said the agency had fixed the information system problems that had caused bottlenecks and was working on processing the 157,000 claims received so far. LaHood noted that the week’s worth of claims totaled $664 million out of the $1 billion allocated for the program and added the program should have adequate funding to run through Labor Day if the Senate approves the additional $2 billion already approved by the House.
