Chrysler and Nissan end vehicle projects
Chrysler and Nissan today issued a joint announcement stating the two automakers have mutually agreed to end the three OEM vehicle supply projects announced last year. The projects included a Nissan compact sedan to be badged as a Chrysler for sale in the South American market this year, another small car for sale as a Chrysler product in global markets in 2010 and a Chrysler full-size pickup to replace the Nissan Titan in 2011.
With the significant changes in the automotive business that have taken place since the agreements were made, both Chrysler and Nissan have been studying the the feasibility of the plans for the past several months. Chrysler and Nissan determined today that it was in the best interests of both companies to end the projects.
A separate agreement involving the supply of transmissions from Nissan affiliate JATCO to Chrysler remains unchanged. That agreement has been in effect since 2004.
