Speculation: Journey Jeep or 2012 Durango?
“Bill the Manager” noticed that the spy shots recently posted of what appeared to be a new Grand Cherokee (courtesy of K. Dignan – D3 Studios) might have concealed a Jeep based on the Dodge Journey. He wrote, “Look at the side doors, especially the top of the doors…”
We noticed that the spy shots show a car whose roofline rises as it goes back, while the 2011 Grand Cherokee shown by Chrysler earlier today has a roofline that falls as it goes back; the Journey also has the fashionable curved roofline.
There is a possibility that, in his review of Chrysler’s lineup, Sergio Marchionne found the 2011 Grand Cherokee wanting in cargo space or looks, and demanded some touch-ups. That would explain the changes.
An alternative conclusion that passes the Occam’s Razor test is that the spy shots showed a 2012 Dodge Durango in development. That would explain the roofline, what appears to be a longer hood, and the fact that there is a Grand Cherokee mule running around months after the prototype was unveiled.
